To my Coursemates by @DatTallDude

Took me a while to pen down a disclaimer for this post so I didn’t border trying :d.
It really doesn’t need one because it speaks for itself.
I do hope the people to which its addressed feel the same way because I might have cried if it concerned me.
Anyway, Do Read, Cry, Laugh but never forget one thing, True Friendship Lasts Forever

So I left school yesterday and as I moved my luggage out of the room for the last time, I was on one hand happy because it was indeed the very last time, at least I didn’t have to clean up after my roommate SOLOMON anymore and teach him how to arrange his locker, but I was sad at the same time, as I looked at OSATO on my bed and realized I might not see my little black boy again till October. My heart sunk and a slow song playing in the background might have made me cry like CHIDINMA and TOYIN did on that day :). I could feel my heartbeat in my mouth as I shook TONY and DONALD for the last time before I entered the cab that was to take me home. I had never felt as lonely as I did on my way home that evening.
I started recounting all the moments I would miss and now cherish more than ever. The long gist with the guys and the jokes that brought my 6-pack rearing their heads out of my shirt with laughter, the insults we rained on people and one another that brought mantles on people’s heads, ONYEMAECHI‘s laugh that made everyone laugh again… I recounted everything as the cab drove away from the comforting walls of CU. I realized that life was going to be more difficult without these wonderful people in my life. Not because things were going to be done easier and faster, but because we always found and find a way to laugh in every situation. Always!!!

But I loved every moment throughout the four years, every damn moment. From the days when boys and girls had separate sitting sections and no-one miraculously crossed the other’s part, to the day when TOYIN tore the attendance sheet and no boy was courageous or well-built enough to confront her, all walking away grumbling like the men that wanted to stone the prostitute in d bible. I’ll miss everything. From the girls I never spoke to, to the one I sometimes spent up to 10hrs of my day with. Yeah, y’all know that one -__- .I’ll miss UCHE OKOYE, my over-able course rep; I salute your courage, your outspokenness and your will ma’am. CHIOMA OKAFOR, the Egyptian queen. How the sound of my voice made you understand what you were reading better is the best thing anyone has said about my voice (and I hope you were not whining me sha 🙂 ). They say we look good together. Well, you never know, I might just get my shit together quickly enough to steal you from your father’s house before all these rich, beautiful-ladies-thirsty men do -___- .And AKINDELE TOYIN, my friend for ages! Your confidence weakens me; your ability to relate with everyone wows me also. I hope we get to finish up our New Horizon business so I could get to see you smile more times. And while we are there, there’s one thing I will always keep out of your reach… My ass! -___- . To Mrs Dilz, my gangster friend, never knew you could shed tears … EVER!!! But you did and showed that you had a heart asides the one with which you love that Asaba boy! That side of you, I like. The gangster side, I love :D.

To my baby ONI IKEKHUAH (hope I got the spelling sha 🙂 ) I’ll miss the motherly attitude on the inside of you my dear. Will never forget you depriving me of biscuits and cookies till a certain time determined by only you during TTG -___- , and I hope I get to see you again so I can toss you up in the air one more time :). KUPONIYI OLUWADARASIMI!!! Kupsy Dee of life! What can I say about this adorable, smart daughter of mama Kupsy huh? You brought out a side of ABRAHAM that I thought we would never see and made AYO look like a good comedian -__- . Keep laughing Kupsy, it’s never too much. And to ADELABU KEMI the Samsung ambassador, you better tell me when the Indian guy arrives so we’ll come for the introduction :). Haha! DAMILOLA IDOWU! le smallie of life!!! your cute handbags left me wishing I had a girlfriend I could get one of those for. Don’t worry, will contact you when I have one (and I hope it’s soon sha 🙂 ). TOYOSI ANDE! you cute little black beauty! will miss our ‘not-that-high fives’, so happy you hit that first class. You deserved it! And to AJAKAIYE UNIQUE my realest G, keep being real sis, and stop dreaming cos you’ll never be as tall as I am even if you stand on the chair in chapel! -__- . And to ONIMOE ANN (Tony), a cast in one of the blockbuster movies made during our stay, my own Kim K, I’ll miss your hug dear, every boy that has hugged you before will miss your hug :). To SUZZIE, my TTG partner, better tell PH boy that I’m here if he messes up. I respect your courage and ability to stand for what is right dear and I’ll keep bugging you when I need an advice :p. OPARA CHIBUZOR my nigga! always acting all tough but I know there’s a soft spot in there, even softer than we imagine. Keep being you my G! 🙂 . And to DUNNI KASALI my name sake (@dattallbabe). You are everybody’s friend for a reason… your smile brings them closer. I’ll miss you dear.

Haha!!! ODUTOLA MAE my bride, saw you on my first day of resumption in CU. We were all pursuing registration in the chapel when your file fell and your papers scattered all over the floor. I quickly stored the surname from one of the papers as I beheld d beauty, don’t know if you remember this, but I do. I’ll miss you Mae, I’ll miss my bride :D. And to ADIGUN OLAMIDE, my family friend that has left a single nigga like me alone because she now has a boyfriend, God will find a babe for me. Will miss you Hun :). Yes! TARE MAJOROH, I see you when you pray and errrm… I see the spirit move. Thank you for that MIS shirt once again, for the initiative and its success. And to KELE-NZEH PRINCESS, some say we are dating, others say we will date, I say we know what we are. I’ll miss you and you know it, just making sure you don’t blow my head off for not stating it here :). And to those I have not mentioned, I’ll miss you too cos whether you like me or hate me (LAIDE -___-), you have been a spectacular part of my journey through CU. I’ll miss you all deeply :’).

Wherever you are, reading this, please give a minute silence to the memory of Mrs. YEJIDE AJAKAIYE, it’s more important than everything I’ve been writing since. May her soul rest in perfect peace.

Episode 2

If you missed our last post; Heaven is real and Hell is no different. You should catch up by reading it.

That said…. Enjoy. 🙂

’Esther hall Queens, its great silence time’’ the voice of the hall officer blared from the public address system, a few hours after roll- call. I smiled to myself, wondering why nobody had caught on to my tricks. I waited for fifteen minutes for the moans coming from my room-mates to turn to snores.

In truth, the bathroom was nowhere comfortable for a plus-size like me. I still cannot understand why the laundry room idea didn’t come to me. I could be well-hidden from any girl passing at night by the wall partition. As if to answer my prayer, the light went off. Blessing my luck, I grabbed my bucket, toiletries and towel to have a quick bath.

As I hummed ‘God in me’ by Mary Mary, I rubbed the rich lather on my face. That was when it happened right? I can’t really remember now, as I step into the Senate building to be directed to the office where the verdict would be decided.

The light suddenly came on, flooding into my eyes. Only it wasn’t PHCN that turned it on, it was Rebecca. At least, the scream that followed confirmed that. They call us Queens but frankly, I don’t think Rebecca behaved like one. She screamed like a Broiler about to be slaughtered. Why hadn’t she behaved like royalty and taken control of herself? We could have worked things out, right? Are Queens that brutal? Yeah, I found out the hard way. Girls came not just from the floor but the whole wing while opposite wings peeped through windows. They didn’t even give me the chance to hide my shame and cover my nudity.

At that moment, human nature was revealed as they rained curses on me in their mother tongues. Girls that had been forming posh. The hall officers were alerted and they took control of the situation. I was moved to a vacant room in Peter hall that night. I remember the look of disappointment on Zeanat and Tolulope’s faces. Rebecca, er, not clearly. It was probably disgust.

The security men at the entrance of the Senate Building shake their heads as I walk past them. Boy, news does travel fast. Everyone in this school probably knows about it even as you read this. Please don’t judge me, I never meant to hurt anyone. Only that fateful night among queens did I realise the full consequences of my action. People are whispering around. Don’t judge me, I want to scream.

Oh God, if you get me out of this mess, I will never do it again. I finally enter the office and the people behind the desk don’t look pleased. Please, someone, anyone, say it has happened before. Say you understand what could have driven me to do something like that. Please, anyone? It won’t happen again, I promise. Just don’t judge me.

‘’Well, Mr Kemi Durodola…’’ that is all I hear. The pressure is too much. So, I pass out…

The End

A Night Among the Queens 2

Welcome back… If you’re wondering what the topic is, then you definitely havent read the first episode…. which you can

Asides that… You’re cool. so Enjoy.

Kemi, I hope you know what you are doing, the angel in me said. I rubbed the Afro on my head, ignoring the inner voice. Thank you, I said at the entrance of the room. I gave the porter who had helped to carry my box, ₦500.00, and stepped into the room. Unpacking, was the most beautiful girl I had ever dared to look at. I looked down quickly. ‘’Hello’’, she said. She was wearing a maxi dress which did little to hide the body type I had been privy to have. At that moment, I knew there was no turning back. I was so in there.

So, I had met all my room-mates: Rebecca, Zeanat and Tolulope. It felt weird at first but I decided I could live with them. It wasn’t so bad anyway. Fortunately, they all saw me as a tom-boy which meant I was safe or at least, so I thought.

‘’Have you ever noticed Kemi always feigns sleep whenever we dress in the room?’’ Rebecca began, one evening, exactly two days later. What the_? I thought. She was going to get me in trouble. ‘’Yeah,’’ Zeanat added. ‘’Totally weird. I mean, we are all girls why do you have to be so shy?’’ ‘’Girls, seriously? We all have diverse opinions on the concept of modesty. I don’t see any problem If I choose to.’’ Wow, my confidence had certainly improved. How else could all the words have popped out? The announcement of a program in the chapel interrupted Tolu before her contribution started coming out of her mouth. I thanked God for the sweet timing of the interruption and ran downstairs. Who wanted an offence form?

‘’When do you intend to unpack?’’ Rebecca asked me, the next evening. What was wrong with this girl? I asked myself, the angel in me ignored me. ‘’I will eventually unpack’’ I replied. ‘’Let’s go and have our baths’’ she suggested. ‘’Excuse me?’’ I said. They were the only words that could come out at that moment. ‘’I don’t enjoy being cooped up in that small bathroom. Most students have their baths in the laundry room. It is probably more comfortable’’ Hell no I thought ignoring the excitement the devil in me was experiencing. It had been getting difficult to hear the angel in me lately. ‘’I can’t stomach the thought of a public bath’’ I replied. Rebecca gave me a look like I was being incredulous. ‘’Becky, I just don’t savour the idea’’ I said, with a note of finality.

As I walked out of the room, it occurred to me, that Rebecca had always seen my modesty among my fellow girls as inappropriate. I should have known then, that she, who had always had her way, would not relent…

A Night Among the Queens 1

Sup Yo!

Been a while yeah… We’re really sorry on here.. we’re truly sorry. Exams, projects, studio and most importantly LAZINESS.

Anyways, today, we introduce a guest writer; Miss Antonia Joseph and she tells a story in the body of…… nah… you find out yourselves.

I know its short yeah, but still enjoy.

p.s. CU students would get a hang of this story better.

With resignation, I walked into the office, my registration details in hand, two saying female, one, male. Had the typists been blind? I don’t know. Clad in shirt and plain black trousers which managed to accentuate the fact that I was fat and obese. People sometimes mistake me for a girl. Not their fault but my anatomy, which somehow suggests what isn’t. Unfortunately, my diminutive voice leaves more to be told. In fact, I am one who people prefer to call effeminate. I do every manly thing I can think of but my flabs don’t go away. Mother started this when she named me Kemi. A name generally associated with Yoruba females.

‘’Kemi, you have to go to the other side’’ the low rumble came, from an elderly man with a stubble. I didn’t notice the new line was a girls only. The worm of low self-esteem had eaten deep into my system that I couldn’t care less about where I had been directed to. Fortunately, the woman to interview me was tired and hurriedly signed for me to go. You couldn’t blame the poor woman. The sight of the long queue behind me was really intimidating.

As soon as the driver parked in front of my hall, I stepped out with all the courage I could muster, to face my destiny. What I saw made me drop the satchel I had draped over one shoulder. Esther hall!!!

I hurriedly picked the paper which had fallen too. Surely I had read wrong. Esther hall, D309. Adekemi Durodola. ‘’The…there’s …there’s been a mistake’’ I stuttered. I turned back to the driver to explain. The smile he gave me made me blush. Was he flirting? I am a boy! But bashful me said nothing. All I had to do was explain to the women around and everything would be fine.

I took a step forward. A step that was to change my life, because that was the moment the crazy idea came. I had been bullied all my life among the boys. What if I was accepted here? I could be happy here! The angel in me scolded me for thinking that way but I promised I wouldn’t spy on the innocent girls. What harm could I cause? I just wanted to be accepted and loved for who I was and not what I was. It was risky but I stepped in. As fate would have it, my luggage was bypassed by mistake in the search routine. It was my lucky day. I mean how else could I explain the boxers and ties I had packed. As for female shoes, I could sort them later. With the best smile ever, I walked in, following the porter who directed me in…

Diary Of a CU Student 5

Hey Diary,
I baffled myself today again (it happens every time… I’m that awesome :D) as to how I’ve never mentioned how my school rocks in sports… Or how other schools make it seem like we do. Countless times, we’ve invited folks from other schools and they’ve all willingly accepted to come and get their asses kicked; not that it’s a good thing but from CU, I’m guessing its some sort of ecstasy to them and everybody wants to have a share in the beef towards us like it’s some national cake.

Anyways, we got used to being called “Local Champions”… Why? Because we were nice enough to invite our colleagues to come get whipped… an unfair judgement, don’t you think. But I think we deserve it. My mum once told me, if you don’t have enemies, you’re getting it all wrong. Papa said the same thing so am pretty sure we’re on the right track.

Ehen, for the reason I’m here exactly; I watched some guys murder Dami, I don’t mean kill o… He just got tackled like real bad, even to the point of his sexuality being questioned… LOL..
The conversation or at least what I heard of it went something like this;

Guys: Dude!…. Sup with you? How come you’ve never mentioned soccer or b-ball on your blog?

Mike D: Why should I? How would Messi or Kobe Bryant inspire people?

Guys: What?! You didn’t just say that!

Mike D: Say what? I only asked a question.

Guys: Were you at the variety night last week?

Mike D: yea, yea… What’s that got to do with the topic at hand?

Guys: Remember the girl that won the CU’s got talent ish?

Mike D: Yea… so?

Guys: What song did she sing?

Mike D: The champions league theme song… so?

And then I guess it dawned on him and me too… just so you know, The pretty girl won 130k cos she sang the champions league song and well too. I suddenly remembered the way the eyes of guys and girls that form they love football lit up. Even Mr Fadugba was caught up in the euphoria. So now I’ve accepted, dunno if Dami’s still forming strong head sha but Sports especially soccer is inspiring. So this is me talking about sports here…

As for the guys killing themselves in the final year league saga, I would say you don’t border. Archi’s winning this year’s edition and there is no foul devil that’ll stop that. I’m still a big fan of marketing though, but I’m sorry, Archi girls are the girls that’ll be doing the victory dance come whenever the competition ends.

As to the title of “Local Champions”, Our CU team took a short tour to redeemers last week and whooped them in all sports. Ouch! Our Archi team also defeated the Archi teams from Unilag and OOU… So I’m guessing that title is old fashioned, we really should be called The Champions now, yeah, we’re bad like that. (cool).

In other news, Grad date got postponed to July 26… Still not sure if am to cry or leap for joy? -_-

Diary Of A CU Student 4

Errr… I really should write something for or with pastor Victor in mind. Really admire that man.

Anyways, that’s for later. Sup Diary! Yeah, yeah, its been ages, I know. Its not my fault actually. The Internet connection was so off the charts, it couldn’t find the chart again. Even in CST, there was nothing concrete to rely on. And the ongoing electricity issue… Arrghh… The really annoying aspect is that Joseph hall consistently has light, even when the whole school (I mean Daniel hall, no offense) is in darkness. I can literally see the pipes grinning and poking their tongues out at us from their windows.

Before I ruin m0y mood with this rising anger, Lemme gist you about Drama Night.
Yea, it was tonight. Wasn’t boring, but wasn’t too interesting. I sha didn’t sleep so that’s a plus I guess. The concept was fresh though with the Generals and Salvation ish. But those guys handling the lights kept directing it at my face. It felt like being in the spotlight alrite, but now I know why them Kim and Breezy mess up when you have hundreds of that thing in their faces.
Pastor Ntia acted though! Played the voice of God and he played it well. You should have heard the numerous “awwws” when he said “I Love You”. He sure has fans in this CU. What else? Gideon acted as an angel of God… Tolu acted in her pyjamas (She’s sure in trouble for that)… Aghazie got slapped and Success cried and died. All in all, it was alright… Michael and General Fred were hilarious tho.

Got to run along now… Another lecture filled week kicks off tomorrow, and how well could I have kicked it off except with TMC… Tragic :(.. Another lecture of marriage. I sure as hell don’t want to get married anytime soon. The commitment and all them mushy things; not my thing.. No offense to the beautiful ladies getting married immediately after June 28. I heard it got postponed to July 26 though, I mean Grad day. They better not mess with my emotions… Till that rumour is confirmed, its 54 days left.

p.s. I’ll post that Pastor Victor thingy soon… don’t be surprised if it takes me forever, One cant trust school this days… With that I say Goodnite Diary!

Diary of a CU Student 3:

It’s quite funny that the whole school, rather, part of it went gaga over ReDef and a 250 million naira worth competition is ongoing that nobody knows about. Not that it’s any of my business but my own guys are part of the top teams in contention for the money. 😛 … That’s by the way though. Not my business. Could have been if part of the 250 million geez is coming my way but it aint… so, whatever… *flips hair backwards*
Now as to why we are here. I saw E***** yesterday on my way to CST. For non-Hebronites, that stands for the college of science and technology. She was tall, slim, fine and had this aura that screamed BABE!
So I walked towards her, licked my lips to make them pink small (Don’t beef, they are close to pink)… sha we exchanged pleasantries, said our goodbyes and went our different ways. I took a short peek backwards after I took a few steps and noticed she didn’t look back. End of story. 😦
The network is back now, for all of you wondering. No need to walk to CST to browse anymore, not as if I’ll do so anyways. It’s pretty fast now sef. Courtesy of very few connected persons to the network. I’m still praying they don’t bring the light, boys” laptops and I Pads have died.. hehe Nobody must browse except me, Nobody! Welcome to the CU way of life if you aren’t initiated already. Its every man for himself.
Its 68 days to go by the way. June 28 is still a reality by God’s grace. Still wondering if I should try meeting the mystery girl again. For y’all wondering who she is, she’s in 100 level and in environmental science. That’s enough expo for you. Go do the digging yourself.
About any other gist from the CU angle, there’s none. Just that CPC dues is due this today and Yours truly hasn’t paid. *Bows*. why you ask? I can always get a green gown from a store in Marina. Just saying though -__-
Good night!

Never intended to do what I’m about to do now, but Jegede (formerly @Dr_Jegs) would not let me rest. Nigga doesn’t understand what a personal diary means… Anyways, follow @TheNEW_Dr_jegs on twitter. He’s mad but cool.

Diary of a CU Student 2

So we attended a public lecture today/yesterday and in the heat of the boredom, some folks including Dammy, Jesse and co devised some sort of riddles game. One however caught my fancy. Chill jor, I’ll tell you now;

A farewell greeting I am,

Yet, a school’s title I remain.

Texters love me,

Teenagers adore me,

But still their English teachers loathe me.

I am not oblivious of their hatred however,

But my ambition to be one in ten of ten drives me on.

What am I?

Well, that’s the riddle. It took some folks ages to solve it. Can’t blame them, yours truly came up with it: D. this didn’t make the lecture less boring though, it just kept us awake. So whatever. If you think you know the answer though, say so in the comment box. Who knows, I might just owe you a Bashan meal. However, Moji, Biola, Ugochi, Titi, Dammy and Jesse, if you guys dare answer it, you’re in deep shit.

Moving on….. Yesterday was kola’s birthday. Yea, the buff bully I have as a roommate. Nigga did not even get something for his roommates. That Kaduna he’s staying has influenced him wrongly. Even after four years in Cu, nigga still hasn’t learnt that you buy a cake for your birthday and share it amongst your course mates. Ordinary CU manners he hasnt learnt.. smh

As to why I didn’t post for a while, the school’s network wasn’t encouraging one bit. To be truthful, it wasn’t existent. From Daniel hall to Dorcas hall, CST, CDS, Chapel, LT, ALDC, Postgraduate quarters sef, where didn’t I try to browse? No offence to engineering students for not mentioning your buildings though. I actually didnt try going there. But sincerely, asides Mackson Okotie, do you guys browse? I added “no offence” o, so please don’t be offended.

Well Diary, what other gist is there? Trade fair held this week. It was boring so I wouldn’t bother talking about it. Imagine a Trade fair in CU without punch, Yuck right?! That’s exactly what I thought.  Other news, Papa made a grand entrance during Tuesday’s chapel service. Some students including Dammy went to the island to represent school in one event like this. The dude was proud about it but still came back home with a maggi bag. Makes me wonder if they truly went for a program or a eating fair…

With this, I guess am done for the day, need to go sign Roll call asap. Heard they now pack people for missing two days consecutively. I’ll not like to joke with my destiny. 71 days left. Na small remain. Just small, I can see the finish line sef. Shout out to the folks in lower levels though, more grease to your elbow. I hope TTG starts in your 300 level. It’s a hope anywasy, you don’t have to take it P.

Night Diary…. Am out!

Diary of a CU student 1

Do I have to explain what this is about.
I can tell you it’s new and it’s about life in CU.. Covenant University… That’s all I can say. You find out the rest yourself!

• • •

Sup diary!
So, I saw her today, oh I didn’t.
Saw her yesterday though and she looked as beautiful as ever. even under the fluorescent light in chapel. We chatted, she gave me an eye patch and now am down with shock. There was an highlight yesterday though; I finally met Kehinde and she looked stunning as ever. Not that I’ve ever seen her but she does look better than her pictures. And my friend told me she gotten more endowed… ooohh…
Sorry for not introducing myself, my name is Tomiwa Gabriel and I’m a CU student. Don’t believe me? Chill…
I am a 400 level Archi student. yeah, am in the so called proud Archi family. Still don’t believe me? well, I am in Daniel hall, D210. I have two roommates, Kola and Dammy; they don’t know am mentioning them so you better don’t tell them.
Moving on; why you’re reading my diary, I really don’t know but am pretty sure one of my roommates is leaking this. Probably gonna be Dami.. He’s really dedicated with that his blog but who cares???!!! I’m more into dancing and fashion. Come to think of it, Redef is gonna be in a few days. REDEF!!! Truthfully Diary, I should be one of the models but one of my course mates participating refused to let me…
Are you gonna wear a skirt?! was what she asked me. How was I supposed to know she was into female wears alone. I know guys have told me I have hips but that’s not enough to enter as a female model, or is it?
Sha sha… am going for Redef. Its holding in Cafe 1; I would have preferred Chapel but Pastor Victor said Chapel is for God only and I totally agree with him. Or how do you expect to feel when some girls are cat walking and guys are drooling in his house?! If I were God, I’ll slap nonsense out of them!
Ehn Ehn… did you hear we are paying for Redef??!! I almost forgot. I even planned am not going again. Do you know how much 500 naira is?! At least I’ll buy 250 naira food and buy five alive. Abi don’t you see sense in what am saying? and VIP is now 1000 naira! VVIP is now 3000 naira!!!
3000 naira!!!!
That’s someone’s monthly allowance1… Maybe not tho… no, it is jor. I won’t tell you names but am sure I know people getting 3000 a month. They just won’t tell you. Is it not CU students? from TM lawal to Guchi Amerni and Addidos, they’ve rocked them die!! You’ll see them everywhere but you’ll not know. They sharply cut the tag off when they buy it and come and tell you they bought it in ICM and TM store. TM store kor… Marina ni…
Got to go now… was gonna gist you about today’s TMCs class. we talked about marriage.. eww right? It was interesting sha… Let me run before Dammy comes and catches me with his laptop. He’ll not let someone hear word… mscheww… I still prefer Kola to him but that one’s muscles too are frightening… Anyhow sha…. See you tomorrow!

Well…there were hard times…..I mean when I started fully as a professional, I remember; after acquiring all the basic equipments, for about 3 months, we didn’t get a call from any client…ah! …lool… At a point I was feeling like mayn….I hope we didn’t invest wrongly, but over time, we realized the concept of’ I scratch your back, u scratch my back’… isn’t always everything, but overtime…the money started rolling in.The Word
    · Photography is not a career many parents would consider their wards venturing in. Were your parents supportive from the beginning or did you have to convince them later on?

    WA’s Response:
Ha-ha..convince ke? Lool….Well…I actually Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Building Technology from CU, and when I finished, I did NYSC; worked at 2 construction companies and at the end of NYSC, that was it for me..the trend back then was, after NYSC, we all do Masters abroad and then come back to Naija to join everyone else on that same queue of unemployment and end up in the same Rat Race, some of our parents are still in, so instead of searching for employment, why not be an Employer? You feel me? And employers are always happy, cos they love their jobs, they are their own Boss….and at that point it hit me….if you have fun and at the same time love your job/career, then you’ll never have to work a day in your life….
Were my Parents supportive from the beginning?! Not Really…and they had their reason; they thought it wasn’t lucrative, felt it wasn’t professional, and questioned me for the sudden deviation from Building technology to photography…And to be honest, I like Building, as a matter of fact, I wanted to be an Architect, but in all fairness, I love Photography, you can call me up in a bad mood, n I will still want to take pictures, I can shoot long hours and forget to eat…have got a Passion for it, I enjoy doing it, to me it’s fun. When my parents realize this, gradually they started to give me a chance, and it became clear to them one time, when they were aware that I spent a large percentage of my savings to buy cameras, and lighting equipments. Lool…they knew this Boy was serious. And then my works started to impress them, and they indirectly gave a go-ahead.
  • · Is there any pressure on you considering your age and also considering the fact that older people are the major pros in the industry?

    WA’s Response:
Well….I know it’s our Big Bros that are the Major Pros in the business, might be because of their years of experience too, but as you can see…we youngsters aren’t doing pretty bad at all, the Future is Bright, very very *smiles*….and there’s no pressure at all, I am very young. lool
  • · Your first photo shoot or appointment. How did you win the confidence of the client and how was the final product?

    WA’s Response:
Oh! That’s one Funny story, I didn’t think I was that much of a professional during my first photo shoot, cos then I took photos for fun… was for a Newly launched Gospel youth Magazine. The CEO approached me one day and said I’ll like to see your works, and I showed him, and as he was looking through, he stumbled upon a black and white photo of a reading table I took about a year before that time, and that was it…he was convinced, by just that photo…so I can say…my works did all the convincing and confidence the Clients needed. The final look of those photos were however quite impressive, I still showcase some of them.
    Eva Alordiah
    · Of recent, you’ve organized photo shoot sessions with popular personalities, most notable of them; Eva Alordiah, D’prince and Dr Sid. How was the experience?

    WA’s Response:
It was fun, challenging too, cos you have to ensure that you properly present a selling side of these celebs wella, so you don’t spoil their image too…Even though, we still haven’t released a large chunk of the photos yet, but shooting a celebrity kinda bumps up your credibility.
  • · One peculiar thing about your art is the quality of your pictures. Your skills are quite obvious with the arrangement of the set and the angles at which you take the shots. How did you manage to achieve that height of expertise?

    WA’s Response:
Ermm….wow! Thanks for being so observant….well…when you study a course like building technology….you’ll learn a thing or two about paying attention to details.
I learn on every shoot, I visualize the scenario of my set before shoot day, try to achieve it, as Best as possible…even to its last detail…..It makes the Photo Complete.· A lot of people have been inspired by your sheer humility and the mode in which you have fun even when on the job. How do you maintain that character and standard even with criticism?

    WA’s Response:
Criticism ke? Hahaha…well, I feel everyone has their own point of view, My Photography is Art, what you see is what u get.
And I am a humble guy…I enjoy a good laugh, lool…if you tell me you don’t like a particular work, the first thing I will probably do is laugh…it’s just me.

    · Amidst all the photo shoots you’ve handled, is there one that you’ll say got your attention and intense concentration the most and why?

    WA’s Response:
Ermm….well, I am always very focus when am on set, I try to make the best out of every photo shoot, but to say the most intense….err…..I’ll say the Exquisite International Model’s Photo shoot. Why? Because it was a BIG project and it took about 3 consecutive days to complete the job….we had to go to various locations, I was fagged out, I thought I wont have a clean mind to shoot to the best of my capacity… but, I was wrong..the photos came out amazing! I had visualize the outcome of the photos even before they were taken, so I knew what I was looking for, and the moment I got it, ‘its a wrap!’On set

    · Do you have any major project you’re working on currently?

    WA’s Response:
Yes! There is an on-going project atm, however I can’t reveal the details, but it has to do with celebrities, also the WA photographyTraining 201: Advanced Photography 1 is coming up soon.

·Role models. Every successful person has one or more person(s) that he or she looks up to. Who is that person in your life?

    WA’s Response:
Erm….My Role Model, I actually met him December 18th, 2010, at my first wedding shoot, his name is Tunji Sarumi; an A-List Fine Art Wedding Photographer in the United states…I definitely wanna be like or even better than him when I grow up. lool…His works inspire me a lot!
And there’s the big bros like Kelechi Amadi Obi, Jide Alakija, Don Baba, Kola Oshalusi, and the likes whose works push me daily to think outside and around d box….you dig?

    · Wale Adenuga studio, Photography 101. What exactly is this program about?

    WA’s Response:
Its the first of its kind from Wale Adenuga studios, it’s a Basic 101 training for Beginners and intermediary wannabe photographers on what the Basics of Photography is all about…We recently just concluded a 4-day session last year, December, and you can find photos and details about its success on our blog->

Talking about financial benefits, how lucrative is Photography in a setting like Nigeria?

WA’s Response:
To be completely honest, In Nigeria, sort of, but the Photography business is more lucrative abroad than down here in Naija, cos u know our people na, we are fully yet to appreciate the value of quality images…kudos to Big companies who employ pro Photogs and pay them all they deserve, but not all Photogs can get an MTN or Guinness contract, so they are left with the very few clients who slightly appreciate, but can’t afford the bills.
Every regular client is looking for a quality job with little bill, but that won’t work out well for the photogs, but over time, as soon as a photog attains a higher level of credibility, the appreciative clients will come.

· Do you ever have time for yourself amidst all the appointments and photo shoots?

WA’s Response:
Lool…..I try to have some free time, socialize, make friends, just to stay sane, he he habina, cos photography takes away a lot of your personal time, even sleep, especially in the aspect of Post-Production work. So if you Work Hard, you get to Play Hard too.Beach Front

· We made a brief visit to your profile on digital photographer, and your details, though outdated say you play basketball and football. Do you still engage in them or is it strictly work now?

WA’s Response:
Oh! Wow! I see you’ve done your research, you’re good o! Lool….Yes o! am starting to go outta shape, even though I probably still look skinny, lool, but I love basketball, haven’t played in a while…I still play football sha, on my laptop I mean *big Grin*

· Coming down to the fans, how do you manage the fame?

WA’s Response:
Ah! Fame ke? All these big words you’re using for me, lool…its okay, I try to stay humble, not let it get to me, am an open guy, I can talk hours with someone I don’t even know…so to me, I see it as having a lot more friends.
Shout Out to the people who appreciate quality images, they are amazing!

· You are renowned to be a good looking chap and as a result, it’s expected that you have a lot of female fans, how do you cope with that?

WA’s Response:
Hahahahhahaha……me ke? *strokes Goatee* it’s not easy naa…lool….like I said, I stay humble, even though my friends believe am a flirt, lool…its not my fault na

· Bringing it to a broader perspective, what role do you play in restoring the image of Nigeria?

WA’s Response:
Ah! That one na Jonathan question na, lool…ok, let me be serious, like MJ song said, as I paraphrase:  ‘if u wanna make a change in the world, then you’ve gotta start with the man in the mirror’…start with yourself, so I will like to change our mode of trading at the Public Market, re-create it into a healthy, organized and standard environment. Its a Big future project, so watch out!
And definitely to improve our photographers to a standard that will enable them to receive proper recognition as real Professionals.

· What would you say is the major incentive as regards the current unemployment crisis in the country?

WA’s Response:
The Major incentive for the current unemployment crisis in the country definitely are Parents and our schooling system in my own opinion, a large number of the parents  in Nigeria, believe in the notion that if you’re not working for the bank, or as a Doctor in a Medical hospital, or a Lawyer involved in politics or an engineer working for a Big Oil company, then you’re just as equal to unemployed…which is wrong! The Rat race wasn’t designed for everybody, and neither is it a standard for Employment basis. Our Universities even make the issue worse as these courses that parents push their children towards are the only programs the universities offers with a good staff strength….it’s the 21st century, and things have changed, entertainment, Art, Music, those are the new fields of interest, so why not delve into them?! Even Abroad and am talking even other African countries, Professions are been derived from these New fields…Jobs are been created, graduates become Employers. In the US, there are tons of art schools; offering courses from cinematography, visualization, photography, Acting, and more. And these programs have produced various vast professions across their nation.
If we can give our nation this level of opportunity, Unemployment will be drastically reduced, a graduate won’t finish school and be roaming the streets of Lagos looking for a rat race job, but will instead locate a problem in a society, provide a solution and turn it into a Profession.
Choi! I don talk plenty oyinbo o! But it’s the truth, our parents and the society just don’t want to accept these new fields because of the fact that it’s not been Nationally called or referred to as a profession, yet, but with the help of the universities I hope a revolution can be made…
What really got me pissed was when I read somewhere that the state Government flew down a Fireworks specialist to ensure that the Lagos Countdown fireworks display will happen successfully, are u kidding me, ‘fireworks specialist???!!’ And that’s a profession o! But if a Nigerian kid says: mummy, daddy I want to be a specialist in fireworks, they will probably shout him down and say get a real job! Yet one guy is getting paid to be a specialist for banger? Lool…*sigh*  and they probably flew him down in first class too…Do u know see our problem?

· Finally, what advice would you give a Nigerian who’s planning on pursuing a career in photography or any other profession?

WA’s Response:
If you’re gonna go into photography for money, then get an 8-5 job. #shikena

Thank you for your time and consideration

WA’s Response:
Pleasure’s mine…thank you for having me.
